Homoeopathy
Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), while translating a text came across the use of Peruvian Bark (or China) for treatment of malaria. After some experimentation he discovered that taking large quantities of China, over a period of days, produced malaria like symptoms which ceased soon after he decisted. From this he proclaimed his first law :-
"let likes be cured by likes"

He then began a large scale experiment over a number of years using a test group of 20; the results of this were collated in the Materia Medica, which is still used today.

Hahnemann's dilution and succussion of his original plants, minerals and animal substances are produced in differing potencies as are available in your local chemist.
I personally have used a few homoeopathic remedies on myself for a number of years and have found that my doctors have been astounded at my rate of recovery after surgical proceedures. This encouraged me to start using it on my pets.

Although I do not have any scientific evidence, a great deal of circumstantial evidence, (Iskote recovered from a broken leg in half the time the vet suggested, and Tikaani's mastitus, which the vet said could be fatal to herself and her pups, was cleared up in a matter of days) made me think there was more to it. Upon finding another Utonagan Breeder, Lyn Barraclough, had been using a whole host of homeopathic remedies on her animals for years, I realised that I was not alone in this, I therefore started to look much more closely into this subject. Lyn has given me some great advice and is usually my first port of call if I do not have a reference book to hand, as she seems to know the answers to the most common ailments instantly.

As I understand it, homoeopathy is gradually learnt and the more it's used the easier diagnosis becomes; luckily I have had very few reasons to use any form of treatment on my pets, but whenever I have used homoeopathy, it has worked a treat and contrary to the sceptics belief, I doubt the "placebo effect" works on animals.
For good value homoeopathic remedies go to Ainsworths, who will also be pleased to prescribe something for you, or your pets' symptoms over the phone.
